When Did Shopping Become Deadly?

2 dead after shots fired in SoCal Toys 'R' Us
By GILLIAN FLACCUS

PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) — Two men were shot to death in a crowded toy store Friday in a confrontation apparently involving rival groups, city officials said. The officials said they were told the men shot each other, but investigators remained tight-lipped.

The violence erupted on Black Friday, the traditional post-Thanksgiving start of the holiday shopping surge, but authorities indicated it was not prompted by a shopping frenzy.

The Palm Desert Police Department received calls of shots fired just after 11:30 a.m. and found the two men dead.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez confirmed there was a fight but said it was not over a toy.

He released little information at a news conference five hours after the shooting but emphasized there were no outstanding suspects and that no one was arrested. Detectives were reviewing security video and interviewing witnesses, he said.

The incident occurred near the front of the store in the check-out area. Gutierrez said

Palm Desert Councilman Jim Ferguson said police told him two men with handguns shot and killed each other. Ferguson said he asked police whether the incident was a dispute over a toy or whether it was gang-related. He said police told him they were not going to release further details until the victims' relatives were notified.

"I think the obvious question everyone has is who takes loaded weapons into a Toys "R" Us?" he said. "I doubt it was the casual holiday shopper."

Gutierrez would not respond when asked if the violence was gang-related.

City spokeswoman Sheila Gilligan said police told her the shooting broke out between "two groups of individuals that have a dispute with each other."

Ray Turner, 20, said he was two aisles away when two women began shouting and screaming at each other and he had a clear view of the fight until a crowd clustered around them. Both women had children, he said.

"We thought it was just a fight and then someone yelled, 'He's got a gun. He's got a gun.' You really couldn't see nothing because there was a crowd," said Turner.

Rafael Gomez, 11, said he and his father had been in the store about 20 minutes before the shooting but were in a nearby Pizza Hut when they saw people pouring out of the store screaming.

"We just saw them running and crying. I was kind of scared," Gomez said. "We got lucky."

Toys "R" Us issued a statement expressing outrage over the violence.

"We are working closely with local law enforcement officials to determine the specific details of what occurred," the statement said. "Our understanding is that this act seems to have been the result of a personal dispute between the individuals involved. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to associate the events of today with Black Friday."

Sarah Pacia of Cathedral City told The Desert Sun newspaper she was in the store with her two boys, ages 4 and 6, looking at coloring books when she heard a commotion in the next aisle. She thought it was people rushing to get a sale item. Then she heard three or four shots.

She said she froze, and store employees calmly escorted her out of the store.

"This is Toys "R" Us. There are kids shopping in there," Pacia said. Her son Jayden, 4, was clinging to her leg. He told her he didn't want to die, she said.

Palm Desert is a resort town about 120 miles east of Los Angeles.

Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down
By COLLEEN LONG

New York - A worker died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said.

At least three other people were injured.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a "medical emergency" had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island.

Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.

A police statement said shortly after 5 a.m., a throng of shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground." Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospitals.

The dead worker's name was not released.

"Local authorities are looking into the situation," said Wal-Mart representative Dan Fogleman. But he said it would be "inappropriate for me to share any additional information" until authorities investigate further.

Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday. Many stores open early and stay open late. The Valley Stream Wal-Mart usually opens at 9 a.m.

Remember John Forte??

This was a shocker, today half way through his 14 year sentence John Forte was granted a pardon from President George Bush. I found this on Street Knowledge via The Washington Post

via Washington Post

A Grammy Award-winning rapper and music producer originally sentenced to 14 years in prison for smuggling cocaine is one of 16 people receiving pardons or reduced sentences from President Bush.

John Edward Forte of North Brunswick, N.J., a graduate of the elite Phillips Exeter Academy prep school who later became a producer for the rap group The Fugees and released two albums on his own, was caught in 2000 at Newark International Airport with two briefcases filled with $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine, according to court documents.

Forte, 33, a first-time offender, was convicted of possessing the 31 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute and was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years at Fort Dix, N.J. (Forte’s Web site)

With the commutation, Forte will be released Dec. 22, after serving just over seven years. He still faces five years of supervised probation.

Among vocal advocates on Forte’s behalf have been singer Carly Simon, along with her son James, and Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

“Now is the perfect opportunity for John to be given the chance to provide positive benefits to society through his considerable musical talents,” Hatch wrote to Bush in a January 2007 letter.

Forte was one of two inmates who received reduced sentences. He pardoned 14 others.

One of the pardon cases was Leslie Owen Collier, a farmer from Charleston, Mo. He pleaded guilty in February 1996 to two counts of taking bald eagles and one count of using poisoned bait to kill animals on his farm. The victims were three bald eagles, a red-tailed hawk, a great horned owl, a opossum, a raccoon and seven coyotes. Collier was sentenced to two years’ probation, barred from possessing a firearm during that period, and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.

Barack Obama Is A Criminal?

I saw this on one of the blogs that I read on the daily SandraRose.com

City of Memphis Issues Bench Warrant for Barack Obama
Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Tennessee, infamous for being the city where Martin Luther King lost his life in 1968 will now go down in history as the city that placed the first Black President in the criminal system.
On November 4th an over zealous City of Memphis Public Works employee, “Gene Soucy” cited “Barack Obama” personally and not the local campaign office for the placement of campaign signs in areas that the city states they should not be.

Obama court date was set for yesterday and after the President -elect did not appear a bench warrant was about to be rendered in General Sessions Div 14 by a judge that was sitting in for Judge Potter who was absent from his bench on yesterday.

The word of this foolish act got to attorney Javier Bailey who also is a Democratic State party member who went in and got the date reset for December 8, 2008 at 1:30 PM.

On the very same day that he became President of the United States of America where he was voted into office by millions,He also received a booking number “08725976.”

I spoke with Public Works Director Dwan Gilliom who stated that he had been expecting my call and was about to refer me to Toni Holliman the spokesperson for mayor Willie Herenton. But as our conversation continue we both found that there no need to call with Holliman because I had more information about the matter then either of them. Gilliom was unaware that President -Elect Barack Obama now had a booking number and wondered why Soucy didn’t confer with him on the matter.

TO SEE FOR YOURSELF, GO TO http://jssi.co.shelby.tn.us/ AND TYPE IN “BARACK OBAMA” UNDER GS CASE HISTORY.

Bump J.

My man from the Chi was arrested earlier by federal officials for allegedly robbing a Chicago-area bank in 2007. Bump J., born Terrance Boykin, was arrested and taken into custody following a routine traffic stop earlier this week. Police accuse Bump J. and another associate of robbing a Chase Bank branch at gunpoint on January 2007. The pair entered the bank, announced a robbery was in place and emptied the bank of more than $100,000 dollars. No one was injured in the robbery, which was captured on surveillance cameras. Bump J. was indicted on one count each of bank robbery and violation of federal firearms statues. He is currently being held without bond at the Carbondale Police Department, awaiting extradition to Chicago. Bump J., who has worked with artists like Kanye West, Keyshia Cole, Trey Songz, Rhymefest and others, now faces up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted. Bump is a real goon, if you aint know. I know how he feel, its been plenty of times when I have felt like doing something extreme for a green piece of paper. And he was definitely a hit away from getting on, I don't feel sorry for him but I am sorry to hear this. All I can say now is I hope he got lawyer money left, stay strong, and hold your head up.

Don't Feel So Bad About Being Broke

Last night I saw an article on the Complex Blog, and it had me not feeling so bad about being broke. I guess the New York Daily News reported yesterday morning that Dame Dash is "feeling a Joe-the-Plumber-style crunch these days (their words were “MC Hammer-like financial abyss”)." According to the News, Dame’s had a couple of his condos foreclosed and even had his Tahoe repoed. Wow, say it aint so, I guess everybody is hurting out here. But, I thought Dame was holdin? Probably just didn't want to pay them bills, I would be trying to hold on too.

This Is Interesting

The Voice of Our Generation

By LOUISE DIXON, Associated Press Writer

LONDON – Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation.
"I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice," he said in an interview on Wednesday. "It's me settling into that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan."
The Grammy-winning rapper-producer said Justin Timberlake had a chance to be music's MVP, but hasn't put out enough material. (Timberlake's last album was in 2006, while West released a CD last year and is releasing his latest — "808s and Heartbreak" — on Nov. 24.)
"There were people who had the potential to do it but they went on vacation, so when Justin went on vacation I made albums," he said. "And it just came out to be that."
West, 31, said life has been difficult since his mother's death. Donda West died last November after having plastic surgery.
"I'm just going through balancing that. And I always used to have that support system, you know. My mom would be there; no matter what, she was there before everything," he said. "We were together for like 30 years. And you know now when I'm on that stage and I look out and I say, 'What am I going to do with the rest of my life?' Like when does a real life start?' Because I have sacrificed real life to be a celebrity and to give this art to people, which is great. It is great that I was able to do that, I'm not trying to shun that in any way, but it's definitely a Catch-22 and it's bittersweet."

I saw a video yesterday too and Yeezy was saying that he wants to be a designer, and might just rap and make music as a weekend hobbie. Altogether I wish rappers singers whoever would release more albums, songs and even tour more, but I know that probably selfish of me. If you put yourself in there shoes I guest you would want to do other things sometimes, so I feel Ye on that and I would love to see what kind of stuff he will produce as a designer, I know he use to draw and all that.

When Keeping It Honest Goes Wrong

Cash found in Ohio house's walls becomes nightmare
By JOE MILICIA, Associated Press Writer

CLEVELAND – A contractor who found $182,000 in Depression-era currency hidden in a bathroom wall has ended up with only a few thousand dollars, but he feels some vindication.

The windfall discovery amounted to little more than grief for contractor Bob Kitts, who couldn't agree on how to split the money with homeowner Amanda Reece.

It didn't help Reece much, either. She testified in a deposition that she was considering bankruptcy and that a bank recently foreclosed on one of her properties.

And 21 descendants of Patrick Dunne — the wealthy businessman who stashed the money that was minted in a time of bank collapses and joblessness — will each get a mere fraction of the find.

"If these two individuals had sat down and resolved their disputes and divided the money, the heirs would have had no knowledge of it," said attorney Gid Marcinkevicius, who represents the Dunne estate. "Because they were not able to sit down and divide it in a rational way, they both lost."

Kitts was tearing the bathroom walls out of an 83-year-old home near Lake Erie in 2006 when he discovered two green metal lockboxes suspended inside a wall below the medicine chest, hanging from a wire. Inside were white envelopes with the return address for "P. Dunne News Agency."

"I ripped the corner off of one," Kitts said during a deposition in a lawsuit filed by Dunne's estate. "I saw a 50 and got a little dizzy."

He called Reece, a former high school classmate who had hired him for a remodeling project.

They counted the cash and posed for photographs, both grinning like lottery jackpot winners.

But how to share? She offered 10 percent. He wanted 40 percent. From there things went sour.

A month after The Plain Dealer reported on the case in December 2007, Dunne's estate got involved, suing for the right to the money.

By then there was little left to claim.

Reece testified in a deposition that she spent about $14,000 on a trip to Hawaii and had sold some of the rare late 1920s bills. She said about $60,000 was stolen from a shoe box in her closet but testified that she never reported the theft to police.

Kitts said Reece accused him of stealing the money and began leaving him threatening phone messages. Marcinkevicius doesn't believe the money was stolen but said he couldn't prove otherwise.

Reece's phone number has been disconnected, and her attorney Robert Lazzaro did not return a call seeking comment. There were no court records showing that Reece had filed for bankruptcy.

Kitts said he lost a lot of business because media reports on the case portrayed him as greedy, but he feels vindicated by the court's decision to give him a share.

"I was not the bad guy that everybody made me out to be," Kitts said. "I didn't do anything wrong."

He's often asked why he didn't keep his mouth shut and pocket the money. He says he wasn't raised that way.

"It was a neat experience, something that won't happen again," Kitts said. "In that regard, it was pretty fascinating; seeing that amount of money in front of you was breathtaking. In that regard, I don't regret it.

"The threats and all — that's the part that makes you wish it never happened."

I got a question would it be considered stealing if he didn't say anything about the money? I probably would have kept it to myself if I found some money like that and then just gave ol girl a blessing on the side since she gave him the job. She out of line too for trying to give my man 10% cause like I said he didn't have to tell her he even found the money and she gon try to cut him out.

Keep Yo Hands To Yourself

Another Rapper vs Photographer incident..

By KEN RITTER, Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS – Mos Def was being sought by police on an arrest warrant stemming from a scuffle with a photographer at a fashion trade show last August, authorities and the alleged victim said Thursday.

"I had no idea who the man was," said Volker Corell, 60, a Los Angeles-based photographer who said the 35-year-old rapper and actor, whose real name is Dante Terrell Smith, ripped his camera from around his neck Aug. 26.

Corell said he was credentialed to represent a trade publication, and was taking photos at the Men's Apparel and Garment Industry Convention in Las Vegas when he was allegedly attacked. He said the last four photos before his camera was broken clearly show Smith reaching toward him.

"The last shot was his hands in front of the lens," Corell said.

Investigators expected Smith would turn himself by the end of the week to face a warrant charge of felony robbery and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property, Las Vegas police spokesman Ramon Denby said.

Mos Def's publicist, Carleen Donovan in New York City, did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

The warrant was issued Tuesday, said Michael Sommermeyer, a court spokesman.

Corell said he received a cut on his left hand in the scuffle, and that two Las Vegas Convention Center security guards retrieved the camera. Repairs to the camera cost $178, police said in court documents.

Robbery can carry a sentence of probation or two to 15 years in state prison. A conviction for misdemeanor destruction of property less than $250 can bring up to six months in county jail.

Smith built a following as an underground hip hop artist in the 1990s, and has been nominated for Golden Globe, Emmy, and Grammy awards. He is the host of the award-winning HBO spoken word show "Def Poetry."

Don't Be Surprised If She Ask Where the Cash At?

I found this article on the
Singersroom Celebs Blog..

This has got to be the best PR ever! A 22-year-old Sacramento State College graduate, who uses the name Natalie Dylan, is auctioning off her virginity to help pay for school. She says “I don’t think auctioning my virginity will solve all my problems, but it will create some financial stability.”

Dylan says she has already taken a polygraph test to prove she’s a virgin and is willing to undergo a medical exam as well. “I’m ready for the controversy,” she says. “I’m ready to do this.”

Natalie hopes to net up to $1 million dollars from the auction, which will take place in Nevada at the infamous Moonlight Bunny Ranch, a legalized brothel. Ebay reportedly denied her.

“I’m not just looking for the highest bidder,” says Dylan. “I’m looking for someone who is a genuine, overall nice person.” Ironically, Natalie has a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Sacramento State and wants to pursue a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy.

Would you do this or is this idiotic? My reaction, wow that's kind of strong, why would she be selling her virginity, when oviously she had been saving it for a reason? Next, who would pay a mil to knock off a virgin (excuse me but damn). Then I was like what if she found a way to past the lie detactor test and she lyin' or what if she had been playing this her whole life. Now that's slick, a hell of a way to go from ashy 2 classy.. Instead or savin it for marriage saving it for a mil, hmm.. would have to think about it (not to long) but I would probably sell my virginity for a million, and I know its a little different for women. Now I want to here from my ladies on this, how do you feel about this. And since most of yall feel like your first experience was lame anyway..

You Should Slap Yo Self

Wow when I saw this video, I couldn't believe it, family had a chance to go from ashy 2 classy, and he BLEW IT.. All my broke people say it with me DAMMM ITTT

Off To A Good Start

I'm so glad that Basketball season is kicking off again this year, I don't watch TV but this is the only time of the year that I wish I had cable. But I guess online stats and video will do.. Anyway I wanted to post a few teams that are off to a hot start and are my teams to watch this season..

#1 The New Orleans Hornets, I think they are gonna be tough this season, the think the playoffs last season prepared them for this upcoming season, they are unbeaten so far. Plus CP3 is the truth, they beat up on Cleveland last night 104-92 and he led the way with 24 points and 15 assists. David West had 25 and Posey put up 15, all they gotta do is keep ballin hard and play as a team and the sky is the limit for the Hornets..

#2 The Boston Celtics, I mess with the Celtics they got a All-Star squad and you know they gon put in work night in and night out. K.G. made history friday night being the youngest player to play in 1000 regular season games when they beat the Bulls. Pierce, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo gotta show up every night and the Celtics can definitely end up in the finals this year.

#3 Kobe Bryant's Lakers they are off to a hot 3-0 start, Kobe scored 33 last night in the 104-97 victory over the Nuggets. Kobe on his grown man out there all he needs is for Lamar Odem and Paul Gasol who had 16 points and 16 rebounds last night to roll with him. Plus they got a deep squad, so they are definitely gonna be a force this season. **I'm so happy I don't have to see Kwame Brown bum ass
